Line Editing
Line editing takes a sentence-level look at your novel’s readability and flow. You could say it is an artistic approach; its purpose is to improve your writing whilst maintaining your authorial ‘voice’. A line edit will help with the following:
By tightening the prose
Improving the readability and flow
Pacing
Ensure consistent POV
Ensure consistent tense
Word usage and repetition
Filler words
Show don’t tell
Timeline issues
And so much more!
A line edit comes after a manuscript critique and before a copy edit. This service includes one pass (though I will be reading through the document twice) a clean copy, an editorial report, and in some cases a style sheet (more common for sci-fi or fantasy). All changes are made in Microsoft Word tracked changes, so ultimately you will have the final say on revisions, and you should only make the changes you feel comfortable with. I tend to use the Chicago Manual of Style unless specified. Turnaround time is 4-6 weeks depending on length.
